Welcome to the COMPARE Lab!

Comparing Other Minds in Play, Adaptation, Representation, and Emotion

We study how animals and humans think.

At the COMPARE lab, we are interested in understanding how animals and humans reason about and communicate with others. How do animals understand what others know and do not know? How do they communicate about novel events? How does emotion impact learning, communication, and collaboration?

We specialize in studying great apes, humans, and dogs, but our work spans a wide range of species, methods, and research questions. We conduct research at zoos and preschools in the US, UK, and EU, and on IU campus.

Who are we?

We’re a group of researchers at Indiana University studying the minds of animals and people. The lab is based in Bloomington, but we have projects all around the world.
